I will be providing explicit direct phonics instruction to struggling readers in my school district. I want to provide my students with a warm and enjoyable room where they can be excited to come and read. Many of my students are challenged with ADD/ADHD and it is hard for them to sit at a desk all day. I want to provide flexible seating in my reading classroom. Differentiating the classroom for my students will impact their learning. Giving students a choice on where to sit and what to sit on allows them independence and ownership. The choices in seating that I have selected will allow my students different alternatives when sitting at a table for group work or when choosing a spot around the room for independent reading practice. The choice of seating at the table will allow my students movement without distracting others. The choice of seating on the floor provides an opportunity for my students to relax and be comfortable while reading. I have also selected some decodable books which will provide my students with text that they can decode and allow them to use and apply the skills that they learn. I want my students to gain a good foundation for reading so that they will be lifelong successful readers.
