After student's spent a year of virtual learning from the comforts of their beds, grandma's house, or in some cases, while even on a road trip, students are having trouble returning to the old fashion style of seating. Many of my students are having trouble sitting for long periods, feeling uncomfortable, and getting bored working in the same spot everyday. To help provide them with some options, on my list there are items like high top tables with stools, standing desks, and even a bookcase that will be converted into a reading bench. These items will help provide students with the choice of how and where they would like to learn while in the classroom which will help students regain that comfort and sense of control that they experienced when they were learning from home which will lead to better engagement and achievement. During the year of distance learning, many of my students did not have access to the writing supplies necessary to maintain and improve on the writing skills that are so important to master in elementary school. As a result, students came back to school with the same writing skills that they had when they last attended in person learning in the 1stgrade. By the 3rd grade, students should be able to write multiple styles of response with clear ideas and organization as well as be able to conduct research to gather information on their writing topic (W.3.1-8, W.3.10). The resources I have selected will help give them targeted instruction so they are able to met 3rd grade standards and close any gaps in their understanding. The combination of items I am requesting will help student feel comfortable and engaged while completing rigorous coursework.
