41% of our staff at Stephens Elementary is new this year. My aim is to create a library of reading, writing, and social studies materials that we can use to plan engaging lessons for our students. Some of the materials listed include already-made centers and others are resource books we could use to create center activities, lessons, and guided reading lessons. These resources will be placed in a central location that teachers could check out and use during collaborative planning. To engage our students, we need to use materials with a variety of different topics, genres, and approaches. Who likes reading the same kinds of things every day? That's why some of the materials listed are fun Reader's Theater books and plays that will help with student fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Other resource books listed will help improve student ability to use textual evidence when discussing both fiction and nonfiction text. Finally, for our lower grades, there are phonics dominoes and literacy centers to keep them engaged.
