COVID-19 has highlighted the need for schools to move to digital learning. Since the school shutdowns of 2020, I have been converting my classroom from traditional paper/pencil to digital so that I can seamlessly transition to virtual learning with little-to-no notice. 99% of the work my students now do in class is done on our classroom iPads. The only problem we’ve encountered with this digital transition is the ability to type essays and stories. Writing lengthy essays has proven to be difficult using touchscreen keyboards on the iPads, and many of my students have struggled. In 8th grade English, students are required to study and practice writing 3 different types of essays, and they are tested on their writing abilities on their Oklahoma State Test. I would love to add the option of pairing Bluetooth keyboards to the devices to assist students who struggle with the iPad touchscreen. I want to make writing as stress free as possible for my 8th graders, and these keyboards will help me reach that goal.
