These materials will allow me to replicate the design thinking process modeled at UW-Milwaukee. Students in computer science will brainstorm using post it notes on large black foam boards. Students will design a product to test how long until an element of a product will fail. This will allow them to predict the longevity of the product and redesign if necessary. Students will write a program using Makey Makey circuit boards to run their experiment and output how many repetitions were needed for the product to fail. They will then collaborate with the Algebra classes to create a model for predicting failure given different parameters. Finally, students will write a program that allows user to input aspects of the product and output how long the product is expected to last using their model. Students will use the colored foam board and cutters to create an interlocking display of their process that will be presented at Festival of Nations for our Open House at Milwaukee School of Languages.
