I teach Kindergarten in Walnut Creek California. My population of second language learners is growing each year. Kindergarteners learn best by touching, feeling, listening, sharing and discovering. With budget cuts there just is not any money to supplement our curriculum in order to make it meaningful and relevant to the students. My students love going to free choice and the first place they go is the science center. Our state curriculum does not provide the materials needed for the students to explore and learn in a way that best fits their developmental level. So much conversation comes when the students are actively learning together.
