With this project, my students will be able to work on their fine motor skills in a fun and engaging way. In addition, they will also be able to learn foundational skills in math and reading through hands-on activities. Many of my students are still learning the alphabet and matching quantities to numerals, which are foundational reading and math skills. Research shows that using multi-sensory strategies to teach is beneficial for students with disabilities. I will set up rotations in my classroom where the students work in small groups with my classroom aide or independently. At such a young age I believe it is important that the students learn through playful and interactive activities and I hope all the products I have selected for this project will give them this opportunity. Many of my students have delays in fine motor skills and are still learning to hold a pencil correctly. I have also selected items that will provide my students various playful ways to practice their fine motor skills (scooping bugs, using tweezers to sort items, etc). This is something I am planning they could do during independent work time, while I teach other students in small groups.
