The students who attend speech and language therapy require high levels of support in order to keep up with the demands of the curriculum. In order to assist my students in the best way possible, I use research-based programs to increase their listening, speaking, reading, and writing. There are 2 programs which I have used for many years that have been very successful in improving my students' communication: The Story Grammar Marker and Lively Letters. These programs have interactive and motivational apps, which are highly motivating and provide students with a lot of opportunities for practice. By introducing these apps to my students in the therapy room with an iPad, it will increase the effectiveness of the intervention they receive. The Story Grammar Marker app provides a multi-sensory organization of narratives and allows students to follow this organization to create their own narratives. This exciting way of telling and retelling stories boosts the children’s self-esteem. The Lively Letter app assists students with phonemic awareness skills by teaching sound-letter correspondence with a display of how each sound is produced with the mouth. Through the use of stories and songs, these Lively Letters enable students to improve their reading at a very fast rate. My students are familiar with these programs and just need an iPad with these apps to enable them to soar!
