As a teacher for students with special needs, I like to give my students choices in the classroom where they feel comfortable sitting to complete given tasks presented. This flexibility in their seating arrangements allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times, they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently, my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room, such as at different tables, sitting in various corners of the classroom on the floor, sitting or laying on carpeted areas in the classroom such as the classroom library to read or complete given tasks. Thus, it is important their learning environment is inviting and comfortable in order to reiterate the importance of their academic developmental success and motivation. As an educator of children with special needs, I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices about where they sit for they are also more engaged, and they are able to get more work completed rather than when they are just sitting at their desk. In addition, they become more collaborative with their peers, become less disruptive or just provide a quiet area away that allows them to focus and take charge of their learning. The carpets selected will help my students by giving them a comfortable learning environment and additional seating options to make more effective learning choices and motivate them to progress.
