These books will be a welcome addition to our class library. Students will grow as readers as they read books matched to their ability. They will be excited to have more choices when they “shop” for books to read each week. They will read independently and sometimes with partners, discussing the story as they read. Being a skilled reader will benefit the students in other subjects as well as they use their reading skills to acquire content area knowledge. Many of my first graders love non-fiction. They are eager to use their reading skills to dive into science related topics.
