Attendance pencils, certificates and small toys would be used as incentives in order to provide our students with regular recognition and rewards for having good and improved attendance. At our school, we tell our students that attendance matters each and every day. Incentives and prizes are used as part of a comprehensive approach to reduce chronic absences. Students often respond better to concrete rewards than they do to lectures from parents, teachers, and the counselor. At our school, when we notice that students are struggling with attendance we work with students and families to set goals to improve attendance. Reinforcing their attendance with a prize helps to keep students focused and motivated. In addition, we also like to recognize our students who maintain perfect and good attendance with prizes too.
