Having the choice of where and how to sit empowers the students. Empowerment leads to focused productivity and great work is the result! I would love to be able to provide them with some lap desks for an alternative to sitting at their seats. My Firsties love to sit on the floor and in unusual spots to do their work. They like to have the option to stretch out and work in little offices they create for themselves. Freedom to move around also fosters responsibility and self awareness. Creativity works best without limits so why should we always sit at our traditional desks in traditional chairs? Sure that gets traditional results but thinking outside the box requires removal of the box! Room to grow is integral in first grade and lap desks will incorporate both literal and figurative room for growth!
