Teaching in an under-served, neighborhood school in Philadelphia, my students often come to my classroom unprepared. I want to ensure that when students enter my classroom, I am able to provide for them the basic necessities required for learning such as pencils, paper and a clean, organized environment. I try my best to engage students with varied readings about our social studies topics like graphic novels, news articles and even food menus. I need basic supplies, like paper, to be able to provide content that will engage my students' interests. I will be teaching 5 sections of 6th, 7th and 8th grade Social Studies so there is more of a need this year than ever for basic school supplies in my classroom.
