The donated novels and flexible seating with continue to help me build and enhance my students relationships with myself and with one another. Through building these relationships we will be able to draw personal connections to our literature and reflect on our individual experiences and the experiences we will share together through the school year. The flexible seating will give my students the opportunity to feel comfortable curling up with a good book or joining together to cultivate strong conversation or debate about their newest read. One of my many goals for the year is that every student in my classroom finds at least one novel that captivates their interests. Our flexible seating reading corner will bring the chance for my students to share their reading experiences with their peers and showcase their favorite novels, inspiring one another to continue to read. It will also give me the opportunity to get down and read aloud with my students, whether it is an entire novel that we choose to read aloud for enjoyment or we create book shares where student develop their own captivating “trailer” for their favorite book to read aloud to their peers. Novels give my students access to many cultures and worlds they may not otherwise have the chance to experience. Learning and growing together as a class will only continue to strengthen our relationships together both within my classroom and out in our community.
