The books from this project will be used to help students feel more connected to their school and library by seeing themselves reflected on the shelves. Additionally, by increasing the number of diverse and high-interest books on the shelves during remote learning, I will increase the number of students interested in checking out books (which is still allowed while remote learning) and help kids continue to read at home. Students are far more likely to read when they feel connected to a text and when they are highly engaged. Getting these books in the hands of my students will help them become lifelong readers and learners. I chose the books on my list from the Project LIT Community — a grassroots network of book groups that aims to get students excited about reading by highlighting diverse, high-interest, culturally relevant books.  I am dedicated to helping students find the right books to hook them as a reader and make them want to keep reading, and in order to do this, I need more diverse books. By supporting this project, you will be helping students of color feel empowered, represented, seen, and valued in the Media Center.  Thank you for your consideration!
