Last year I was given a new rug by my school but soon realized we had a personal space issue. I ended up using my own money to buy sit spots so everyone had their own spot and it made transitions smoother and gave me more teaching time. The new rug I chose is big enough to fit a large class, which I am expected to have this school year. It is a calming blue with circles so that every child has their own place to sit. Assigned spots will allow me to cut back on transition time when it is time to meet at the rug. The rug will be used for morning meeting, whole group lessons, discussion spot, and a reading space. This rug will help me be able to see all students during whole group teaching time, but also give me space to walk around students to hear partner discussions. The rug will also be used during reading and math centers where students will work on their own or with partners to practice new skills learned.
