My goal with this project is to give students opportunities to choose seating that suits their learning needs, as well as to encourage creativity in my new Theatre Arts class with materials for creating costumes and backdrops. In English, we use the workshop model for teaching, and having some seating outside of a traditional desk can help foster a sense of community as we explore novels and concepts together in a sheltered environment. In Theatre, I want students to take ownership of their productions beyond acting by giving them materials and fabric to create backdrops and simple costumes. This will encourage students to come together for a common cause, to create something wonderful.
