My students are young kindergarteners who have a lot going on in the second language classroom setting. This visual aid rug is key in helping everyone know their place, boundaries, and vocabulary in Spanish (including circle, blue and rug). It can be overwhelming for them to come in, not understand the teacher, and unfamiliar with routines and expectations. In order to reduce anxiety, bickering, feeling out of place, and to establish a community feel at our meeting area, I have chosen a big and inviting rug that we will use countless times throughout the day. Lessons we will have at this space will usually be models for independent student work in reading, writing, and mathematics. It will also be utilized for teamwork exercises and read aloud.
