The school day for my students is longer than most, and they have 8 classes a day! By the end of the day, they are fidgety, uncomfortable, and have energy to expend. I can't afford to lose precious class time to activity breaks, but I can help make my students are a little more comfortable in their seats. Research has shown the effectiveness of flexible seating for students with ADHD, but I believe it would benefit any antsy middle schooler. I want my students to choose how they sit in class so that they can focus better and spend more time learning and less time complaining that they need to stretch their legs!
Students can use the stools and chair balls to have comfortable seating at regular desks. Students can use the lap desks if the regular desks are not as comfortable or accessible for them, but they do not want to sit on the floor. Students can use the laptop stand and the small table if they want to sit on the floor on a cushion (which I already have) instead of in a chair/lap desk. Chair bands will help students who want to sit in the regular, back supported chairs but are still fidgety/want something more comfortable.
