I hope to create a calming corner in my classroom where students can go to de-escalate and work towards regulating their emotions. A calming corner is essential to create an optimal learning environment for all students, but especially for those who have experienced trauma or have special needs. Helping students feel safe and become comfortable in the classroom increases learning gains. Dim lighting, flexible seating, sensory toys, content-related books, etc... all are strategies to provide this calming safe environment. The products I have selected will help create that positive atmosphere that all students need for learning. I've seen tremendous growth in students by giving them alternative options to release emotional behavior in the classroom.
