In my special education resource classroom, my students are generally focused on enhancing their deficits in basic literacy and/or math skills. In order for them to reach their individual goals, they need to feel comfortable and have the freedom to move around. Flexible seating will increase the ability for movement during small group instruction and allow my students to choose seating that comfortably supports their learning. This will help my students stay focused, be more engaged, and remain attentive during specialized instruction, which is necessary for my students to obtain the skills needed in order to be successful in closing their academic achievement gaps and overall performance.
