These books will be given to the students. They will own them. The books will not disappear from their lives at the end of the school year. Students will write in them, bend pages, personalize the cover. They will feel what it means to own knowledge. We will all read the book together as a part of our advisory period as a way to boost reading comprehension as we explore personal development. Many parents, teachers, and concerned citizens complain that school does not teach things that are useful in the real world. One of the reasons students will be transformed by this book is that it covers all those real world topics (mindfulness, emotional control, health, financial literacy, entrepreneurship) with fluent, concise delivery. The other main reason I chose this book is that it was specifically designed to be written in. Thus, the book becomes personal. Sections about self-talk become about the students' own self-talk. Sections about vision become the students' personal vision. Sections about overcoming obstacles solve the students' real life problems. At the end, each student will have a deeply personal artifact if they have the chance to own this book.
