Students have the freedom to choose texts that fit particular genres that we will learn about in our classroom. My plan is to offer a variety of quality texts that cover many genres so that students have reading options that my eighth graders find interesting and engaging. Ideally, the library will be stocked with books that include the genres of dystopian, fantasy, historical fiction, biography, classical literature, graphic novels, poetry, and texts written in Spanish and Somali. I would like the authors to reflect the diverse demographic of my school and specifically of my English Language Arts classroom, including authors that represent African American, Latinx, American Indian, and non-Western cultures.
