After the crazy year, we (teachers and students) endured last year learning gaps happened. My goal this year is to help all students whether they fell behind, stayed the same, or got ahead. I would like to do hassle-free quick checks throughout my lesson to know who needs more help. The quick checks can also help me see if I need to reteach a lesson to the whole class because they are not understanding, go at a faster pace, and who to pull for small groups. The boogie boards will help the students show their level of understanding and allow participation from all the students. They will not be spotlighted to speak in front of the whole class or get called out if their answer is wrong. They will provide a safe learning environment for all leveled learners. The boogie boards are different than typical dry erase boards because we do not waste tissues and we do not worry about losing, breaking, or having to buy dry erase markers all year. The boogie boards have a stylus to write as if it were paper and pencil to help my kinesthetic learners. They are reusable, to erase you just press a button. It will save us a lot of time when teaching. For instance, during my typical math lesson, I would begin with first checking for their background knowledge and then beginning my lesson. During my lessons, I like to use a gradual release model to help the students understand at a deeper level and feel confident to try a new skill independently. In the “we do” portion of the lesson, we do problems together and let them work in partners or groups to build on each other and show what they know to their peers.
