A classroom library with both fiction and nonfiction literature is an essential component of my Hi-Cap classroom. We engage with literature on a daily basis through use of literature discussion circles, in book clubs, and even as examples to refer to when learning traits of writing. Our students are voracious readers! Most of them read at well above their age level, but because of the speed at which they have progressed, there are obvious gaps in their learning. Some examples I have seen that a classroom library would help with are using context clues to infer word meaning, and having difficulty in reading nonfiction literature because of the heavy vocabulary. Help us give them the tools they need to challenge themselves and succeed!
