The books I am requesting for my students have characters and topics that they can identify with. The books will drive conversations and show different sides or perspectives for students to grapple with. My hope is that these conversations will transfer to student's every day life and help them become more aware of differing view points and tolerence for one another. I want to put books in students hands that will entice them to want to read more! One of the biggest complaints I hear from students about reading, is that it is boring. I want to encourage them to become life long readers and know that if one book doesn't appeal to them to not give up.
