This fall, I will be teaching AP English at my school. It will be the first time an AP class is offered and, no judgment on the district, the expectation is that my students TAKE the exam, they don't expect them to actually pass it.
I know most of my students are reading below grade level, but I also know they tend to not take testing seriously because of the low expectations people have for them. If someone tells you you'll probably fail a class before you even get there, how hard will you try to pass? Counter that with the knowledge that not only does your teacher recognize your potential but other people are rooting for your success as well...and I think you might approach your education with a different energy, right?
That's where you come in. Unfortunately our school, that is for grades 6 through 12, shares a bunch of old computers that are not always reliable. Whenever there is testing, the working computers will be booked for weeks (and it feels like there's always testing going on these days!) A lot of the AP work is online so there will be plenty of days where my students won't be able to log in and complete required assignments and checkpoints needed for their success in the program. Chromebooks would help keep my AP students on track and my other English III and IV students won't have to stress about their writing assignments as much either.
