Help me give my 11th-grade students their own copy of the novel Kindred by Octavia Butler. Having their own copy will allow students the opportunity to interact with the text on a more personal basis, read both in and out of the classroom and for some students, be the first book they may own. It is my main goal this year to further develop the literacy skills of my students. With their own copy of the novel, students will be able to annotate the text, make their own notes in the book, and have constant access to the book. Hopefully, this project will encourage students to begin their own personal library and increase reading in their personal time. It is important that I expose students to novel studies as many of them plan to attend two or four-year colleges.
