At the high school level, many students feel as though they are either a reader or they are not. My goal is to help students who may struggle with reading get a second chance.
When you've been told you're not good at something your whole life, chances are you believe it. My goal is to help students find a book, just one, to start out with. All it takes is one page to start a spark and hopefully help students fall in love with reading.
Reading is such a critical part of life and can act as an escape for so many of my students. They can learn how to face the problems in this world through characters in other worlds present in books.
The Crucible texts will be used to introduce my students to satire and its purposes. They will not only read the play out loud but also analyze specific characters or events and compare them to modern-day figures or events. The parallels students draw are surprising and so thought provoking.
The laminator tools will help me create reusable handouts for students to use to demonstrate their learning year after year. Organizational supplies will help students maintain routines in the classroom and hopefully give them some ideas for their own rooms. Every type of positive feedback I can give students is important, so I know they'll love the stickers and stamps on their papers.
