I am a first year teacher, and chose to start my journey in education in a place that I felt needed me. I came into this job hoping to alleviate educational inequity; however, a major part of inequity comes from lack of resources. As it stands, the only materials I have to my name are 30 notebooks, a few boxes of markers and crayons, and a bag of counters for math. As I undergo a career change and am waiting for the school year to start, I haven't received a paycheck and won't receive one for several weeks (until the school year actually starts). In the intervening time, my students are at risk of coming into a classroom with nothing but desks and a very hopeful teacher. My students need the resources they deserve in order to receive an equitable education. Starting with nothing will only serve to further the inequity these students feel every day of their lives, in and out of the education sector. Please help me get these students desperately-needed resources, such as a bookshelf for our classroom, a carpet to sit on, a pencil sharpener, and erasers! I want these students to feel like they have everything they need to begin their 3rd grade journey.
