By allowing students optional sitting within the classroom, they will feel more comfortable thus allowing for engaging conversations, better reflections over our readings and more profound writing. When students feel at home and comfortable in the classroom, great things result. Optimal seating and student choices make for enlightening ideas. That's why the best ideas, those aha moments, are not found within the board room but when you relax and take a moment to reflect in comfort- at home in the bath, lounging by the pool, on the back of your horse, or in the middle of the night! You know its happened to you... Current research suggests that student productivity is increased when students have a choice in their learning. Unfortunately, schools are not designed with student input. If they were, classrooms would take on a drastically different look. With these materials on my wish list, I want to begin to transform my classroom into a place of eager anticipation, excited participation and proud accomplishments and growth. In addition to the standard desks and tables, I want a futon for comfortable sitting, a rug for lying and floor pillows that are portable so that students may choose their best thinking positions that day. I want my students eager to engage in our reading and writing activities for the day! We read and write daily.
