My students are seven and eight year-old girls and boys. As a teacher with a Degree in English Literature and a Degree in Elementary Education Degree, I feel that literacy should not only be exposed and discussed in the reading and writing block in a classroom. Reading encompasses all subjects, and to include it within the math block allows the students to see that math and reading can be related. The math literature will be used to promote discussion and higher-order thinking, which will promote engagement within the math block specifically at the beginning of a concept. The literature will help my students make connections with the math concepts that are being taught. The 3 Amazon Fire Tablets will be used as an extension for students to practice taught concepts through math games and digital task cards.
