This spring at the end of the semester I asked my students what THEY thought about the classroom. I asked, "If you could change one thing about the room, what would you change?"
Many of them stated that they would like to have a mural or a big nature poster in the room, and several asked for additional lighting so that the windowless cinder block classroom could feel warm, more welcoming, and calming.
So, this is for them! I would like to add two huge posters to two different walls. One will hang on the side of the room where EVERY other classroom on my floor has a window, and the other on the opposite wall. The addition of globe lights will allow me to dim the fluorescents, and also add some fabric to the ceiling to help soften and diffuse the harsh light of the fluorescents when they need to be on high. At present, I have a tiny sand garden, and my students go crazy over it! This summer I am building a bigger one in my studio, and I am also asking for new rakes for it.
