Last year was the first year that I have really incorporated picture books into my 4th grade classroom. I started the year off doing it once a week to emphasize our Great Expectation, Life Principle for the week. For example, when our Life Principle was "Kindness" I read the book, We're All Wonders. It was amazing how the students comprehended the principle so much more after we would read the picture book. Doing this gave me the idea to start a book-a-day challenge. I want my students to be the best kids they can be, and in return, helping them grow up and be the best adults they can be. Also, I truly believe that reading them a picture book a day will help them expand their creativity, and give them the confidence to achieve the impossible. The books I have selected will not only be used to teach my students Life Principles, but these books will also be used to expand vocabulary and student comprehension on a daily basis.
