I am a first year reading teacher challenged with the daunting task of building an entire library for my students. My class is largely independent reading, where the students have the flexibility to choose their own books. As a teacher in a public high school where 99% of the students are Black and on free or reduced lunch, I want my students to have access to a wide variety of titles. My goal is to help students learn to love reading as much as I do. I truly believe that literacy is freedom- by building their reading levels I am helping my students unlock their full potentials to become the brilliant young adults I know their are.
