Flexible seating provides a comfortable and safe learning environment for all students, which supports development of student choice, interest, and accountability. Students have an increased ability to self-regulate behaviors, maintain focus, and complete tasks effectively when they are given choices. In addition, flexible seating provides differentiated support for students with learning disabilities, such as ADD/ADHD and ED (emotionally disturbed). Furthermore, providing appropriate materials for both individualized and whole group needs of students decreases loss of instructional time by eliminating disruptions within the learning environment. Overall, students are able to develop skills necessary for becoming a responsible, accountable, and mature learner.
