There are 25 African-American, Hispanic, and Caucasian students in my second grade classroom. We live in a high poverty area, and student reading levels range from pre-primer up to 4th grade. Our school is a preschool through grade 5 building with about 3 sections of each grade. We live in a rural farming community that is located near our state penitentiary. We have a high rate of mobility, with students moving in and out of our district frequently. For many of our students, school is the only constant thing in their lives, and I want to enrich this as much as possible for them.
