Do you remember how exciting it was to go to school the first day and seeing what your classroom looked like? The anticipation of finding your seat and gathering together on the rug for your first class meeting? Sadly, when I walked into my new classroom to set it up for the upcoming school year I learned that we didn’t have any rugs. So, where would we gather as a class? What would we do for morning meetings, math circles, or shared and independent reading time? Well, that’s where your donations can help.
By donating to this project you are helping establish our new learning community; you are providing comfort and creating a space for us to gather as a class and for students to work independently. I selected the first rug because of its calm color palate, it’s size (which is big enough for our whole class to meet on), and because the squares help students recognize and respect their classmates’ personal space. The second rug is ideal for our new reading area where students will meet with their book groups and where they can choose to go for independent reading time. Together these rugs will help support the flexible learning environment I am striving to establish and will create a space that my students will find inviting as they enter the new school year. But, because I can’t do this on my own, I am hoping that you can help make this new classroom space a reality. Thank you so much!
