I am a 3rd year 4th grade teacher at a Title I school in Houston, Texas. 99% of my students come from low-income households and are reading below grade level. This does not diminish the fire within them to learn! Over the last two years, with Teach for America, I have been helping my students achieve their educational goals. Last year all of my students grew anywhere from 2-4 years in reading level and 74% met/exceeded grade-level benchmarks for Mathematics! This year I am hoping to have an even greater impact. Most of these students cannot afford a second pair of school uniforms let alone school supplies. In order to alleviate the financial burden on families and maximize my students' success, we need some basic supplies that the school district cannot provide. These sweet kiddos need notebooks and folders for their work, whiteboards for daily checks for understanding, and expos to write on their whiteboards, We are so grateful for any help that you provide. Together we can ensure that all children have the opportunity to attain an excellent education, regardless of socio-economic background.
