My goal is to have a classroom in which most art projects are based on stories that we read together. Especially in grades Pre-K through 2nd grade, any occasion that allows children to listen to and enjoy reading a book will enhance their reading abilities. As an art teacher, I hope to create a classroom that is interdisciplinary and incorporates themes that are visited in other academic areas. Some of these themes include topics such as individuality, kindness, cultural awareness, coping with grief, and silly stories regarding fairy tale characters. I want to allow students to create using fabric/fiber arts so that the projects would be accessible to most grades at the elementary school level.
