The most important thing for students with emotional disabilities is to know that they are wanted, that they belong, and that they matter. I will incorporate Responsive Classroom's Morning Meeting into my daily schedule in order to teach my students how to greet each other, how to listen and respond to what others say, and how to recognize their own emotions and the emotions of others by sharing their feelings about what goes on in their lives. Each meeting incorporates academic skills in a way that allows students to interact with each other - the focus for these skills will be our dynamic teaching cart. On this cart the Morning Message will be displayed. At first, I will read them the message, but as the year progresses, students will learn to read this message themselves! The cart will also display our calendar pocket chart so that we can learn the days of the week and the months of the year, as well as sight words that we are working on and numbers as we learn to count to 100. This cart will serve my students in many ways, not just during morning meeting but throughout the day.
