This is my first year at a new site and I had a bit of a shock when I realized that the facilities are lacking in the technology department. Just last year they opened a computer lab and students were able to use the computer for one hour each week. However, more opportunities and accessibility are needed to get technology into the hands of our eager learners. The majority of my students are first generation Americans. English is their second language and many of their parents speak their native language at home. Most of my student's parents work at minimum wage jobs and are unable to provide their children with little more than basic needs. Unfortunately, the majority of my student's families are unable to afford to purchase a computer or tablet for their child to use. Therefore, most of my students lack the computer skills that are needed in the 21st century to become a more successful student and a valuable contributor to society.
