At our school, we are focusing on building classroom community through circles this year, and sitting in a circle is almost a daily activity in my music classroom. Not only is it important for us to listen to each other as musicians, but sitting in a circle and learning to value the voices of each other has so many applications outside of the music classroom. The Joy Carpet 13' Music Rug's circular shape will allow me to see and hear every student evenly, as well as provide another way to learn about the many music signs and symbols incorporated in the rug. Currently we have lines on the floor and, even though they my students are great about trying to form a circle, it is distracting for many of my students who have focusing issues and they miss important instruction from either myself or other students. By having this Classroom Carpet, students will be able to avoid problems and focus on increasing their learning! By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their music achievement. Students will be able to simply focus on the lesson at hand, and not on where we are sitting. Plus, I love how much children can pick up from a visually-stimulating environment. It's amazing how fast students can learn the important signs and symbols of music simply by sitting on and around them.
