Thank you so much for supporting me as I set up my first classroom! I am excited to create a dynamic learning environment in which my students feel safe, respected, and welcomed. I believe that when students feel like they belong in the classroom, they are more ready to learn and give their best efforts. My 6th graders and I are excited to dive deep into a year of challenge and discovery, and you are helping to make that possible. How my students will use the resources you have provided for them: The mini whiteboards, whiteboard markers, whiteboard erasers, flip-chart markers, and sheet protectors will aid in productive partner-share, group-share, and class-share math discussions. My students will be engaging in group work daily, and having a class set of white boards will be beneficial for my students as they record their initial thoughts, share ideas, listen to understand one another's thinking. These white boards will also help me to quickly check for student understanding or misconceptions. The algebra tiles, linking fraction cubes, linking unit cubes, and colored counting circles will all be used as a math manipulatives and visual aids to make the 6th grade math standards (fractions, variables, equations, expressions, ratios, surface area, and volume) more accessible to all students. The basic classroom supplies, such as pencils, staplers, scissors, rulers, and folders will be made available for all my students to use. As I am setting up a completely new classroom, I do not currently have the basic classroom supplies that I need to run an effective learning environment. As many of my students come from low income backgrounds, I want to ensure that they have all the necessary tools and materials - starting day one - to engage in productive struggle during math class this year.
