Well not really pointless, but it makes it hard when you're learning to draw if you don't have them. I want to give each student a set and allow them to take them home for weekly sketchbook assignments to improve their basic skills so that other projects will improve as well. I want to teach them the difference between these drawing pencils and every day pencils. I want to begin with classroom instruction and then continue with sketchbook assignments because the more you practice, the better you get. If I inspire any artists, I'd love for them to have a basic set of pencils to keep and continue to use instead of having to turn them in at the end of every class.
