Due to a lack of quality resources, I have had to abandon a Listening Center in my first-grade classroom. My students who regularly use IPADS within our classroom struggle to complete their independent work due to the lack of personal headphones that last for the entire school year. Student headphones break quickly, and due to financial constraints, many students cannot afford to buy new ones. When children hear literature read aloud, they see how printed words can be closely connected with spoken words. They explore vocabulary as well as different genres and writing styles. Teachers prepare students with important experiences and knowledge for making sense of different texts when they encounter them on their own.
