My Spanish students in Montana are eager to connect and learn about different cultures around the globe. The World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages identified five goal areas: communication, culture, connections, comparisons, and community. Human experiences stem from language and communication. By focusing our lesson objectives on these goal areas, students understand their roles in our local and global communities. Technology, such as Google Cardboard, is a resource that can help us transcend boundaries. Many of these students may never have the opportunity to leave Montana, but the experiences in my classroom will provide them with invaluable global perspectives to help them navigate our world.
