Learning math is difficult. Middle School is difficult. Both of these things were true before the pandemic. We are seeing an increase in behaviors amongst our students, and they are having a hard time adjusting to the classroom. Students are trying their best, and they truly want to learn! But sometimes it is hard for them to focus on their learning when they have other things going on that affect their emotions. Students need a calm environment to learn in now more than ever before. Having a calm, quiet corner in the classroom where they can sit and work would be very helpful! The rug would be our quiet corner with pillows for students to sit on. The two bean bags offer alternative seating for students who need it. The alternative lighting and vines help add to our classroom calm area. Alternative lights allow a calmer environment, as I can turn off our main classroom lights but still provide a more gentle light to learn in.
