During direct instruction my students must have a clear understanding of what they are working for and must be motivated enough by the final outcome to complete the task. They don't have the intrinsic motivation to complete school work and most times food is the ultimate motivator! My students benefit from having a variety of food reinforcement choices. I am requesting healthy chips, Goldfish, crackers, candy, nuts/trail mix, breakfast bars and water to name a few. My students are motivated to initiate exchanges and make requests for food and drinks. I purchase food items every week. Unfortunately, the school district does not have a budget to reimburse me for these items, and the parents of our students face their own monetary challenges and can't contribute classroom snacks. A supply of food reinforcers will motivate my students daily.
