The use of letters and pictures in relation to phonics are key materials needed for students to decode, blend and build vocabulary. The use of materials such as white boards, unifix letter cubes, word building and sentence building activities are literacy activities used to provide multiple opportunities to identify letters, sounds which build words and ultimately form complete sentences. White boards and ten frames used in math are both items that increase problem solving and number recognition. The use of these hands on materials will increase student focus and provide positive engagement which will, in the end, increase academic achievement.
